Finding a viable central location has always been front of mind for those planning Remote Area Medical clinics that have come to Cattaraugus County in recent years. 

The first was held at St. Bonaventure University in 2017, and although successful, moving  the clinic to downtown Olean made it more convenient for city residents without reliable means of transportation.

United States Senator Charles Schumer visited SUNY Jamestown Community College this week to show support for protecting the future of Job Corps. 

"We must save Chautauqua County’s Job Corps center, period. No ands, ifs, or buts,” Schumer said during a news conference on the Jamestown Campus. “It’s vital to save this place because it provides a future for our businesses and our kids.” 

He added: “Our students get the hands-on skills that they need for jobs in highly in-demand fields,” including carpentry, electrical work, and healthcare.

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — State University of New York Chancellor John B. King Jr. visited SUNY Jamestown Community College on Thursday afternoon as part of the his SUNY Reconnect free community college tour. 

During King’s time on campus, he toured the Veterans Student Lounge and Nursing program classrooms and labs and met with JCC leadership, faculty, and students.

Brent Harkness and Rachel O’Brian of SUNY Jamestown Community College recently were named 2024-2025 recipients of the Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence from the State University of New York. 

Harkness, an associate professor of Welding, was cited for excellence in teaching, and O’Brian, a Social Sciences adjunct instructor, for excellence in adjunct teaching.

SUNY Jamestown Community College is hosting a series of new student orientation events at its Cattaraugus County and Jamestown campuses before the fall semester begins on Monday, Aug. 25. All new students are required to attend one of the sessions.

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — Urban Ahlin, Sweden’s ambassador to the United States, visited SUNY Jamestown Community College last week as part of a two-day stop in Chautauqua County. 

Urban, accompanied by Congressman Nick Langworthy and Chautauqua County executive PJ Wendel, met with members of JCC’s administration, including President Daniel DeMarte, and learned of the college’s role in preserving and promoting cultural ties between the Jamestown community and Sweden.

Crystal Rose-Williams, interim vice president of Student Experience, and Jessica Kubiak, vice president of Academic Affairs, announced the SUNY Jamestown Community College graduates who were awarded degrees or certificates from the Jamestown and Cattaraugus County campuses in May 2025. 

A total of 350 students earned degrees and certificates. Highest honors represents a 4.0 grade point average, high honors a 3.5 to 3.99 GPA, and honors a 3.25 to 3.49 GPA.

Brent Harkness is an associate professor of Welding at SUNY Jamestown Community College, teaching shielded metal arc welding, fabrication, metallurgy, and alternate processes 

Harkness has taught at JCC since 2005, starting as an adjunct instructor before being promoted to full time in 2006. He also has more than two decades of welding professional experience.

SUNY Jamestown Community College is hosting two virtual information sessions designed to help adults ages 25–55 learn how they can attend college tuition-free this fall with the new State University of New York Reconnect initiative. 

The sessions will walk participants through eligibility, high-demand eligible programs, and the personalized support JCC offers. The presentation will include information on online programs, course offerings, and services available to students.
