Am I eligible for SUNY Reconnect? SUNY Reconnect is available to eligible New York State residents ages 25–55 who do not already have an associate or bachelor's degree (unless you are going into Nursing) and are enrolling in an approved high-demand program. Are there flexible class options? Yes! We know many adult learners are balancing work, family, and other responsibilities. That's why JCC offers courses during the day, evening, online, and in hybrid formats whenever possible. Your advisor can help you build a schedule that works with your life.

What is the difference between asynchronous and synchronous? Both are online options for classes, but with one major difference! Asynchronous does not have any scheduled meeting times, but you have certain due dates for assignments. Synchronous has scheduled meetings over Zoom.

Will I be the only adult student? Not at all! JCC has students of all ages. In fall 2025, 32% of our students were age 25 or older, and the average student age was 24. You'll be learning alongside students from many different backgrounds and life experiences.

What if it has been years since I was last in school? You're not alone. Many of our adult learners are returning to the classroom after several years - or even decades. Our faculty and staff understand the unique challenges adult students face and are here to help you succeed from your first class through graduation.

How long will it take me to finish? That depends on your goals, previous college credits, and how many classes you take each semester. Some students attend full time, while others take one or two classes at a time. Your advisor will work with you to create a plan that fits your schedule and helps you reach your goals.

What support is in place to help me be successful? Our small school community is here to help you succeed! Your success navigator is here from when you apply until graduation. Our Learning Commons provides peer tutoring, study skill development, and time management workshops. Find them in the Hultquist Library on the Jamestown Campus, in the Library and Liberal Arts Center on the Cattaraugus County Campus, or at 716.338.1008.

What if I have college credits from another school? Bring them with you! Previous college coursework may transfer toward your program, helping you save time and money. Our team will evaluate your transcripts and explain how your credits apply.

Can I receive credit for work or military experience? Possibly! Through Credit for Prior Learning (CPL), you may be able to earn college credit for eligible professional, military, industry, or life experiences.

Is there support for finding an internship or job in my field? Yes! Career Services can help you explore career options, build your resume, prepare for interviews, find internships, connect with employers, and plan your next career move.

What if I have young children? JCC’s Cattaraugus County campus has childcare available on campus, helping student parents balance school and family responsibilities.
