On-campus Student Employment

Student workers on campus

Students at Jamestown Community College can work in departments and offices across campus.

Enrollment, Hours, & Pay

Enrollment & hours during the academic year:

  • Students must be accepted for JCC admission and enrolled in 6+ credits during the fall or spring semester in which they are working on campus.
  • During the academic year, student workers can work up to 20 hours per week, and schedules depend on department needs and student availability. If a student worker has more than one position on campus, they still may only work a maximum of 20 hours per week between all on-campus jobs.

Enrollment & hours during summer:

  • Students working over the summer must be enrolled in 6+ credits for summer or the upcoming fall semester. Students who graduate in May cannot work that following summer.
  • During the summer, student workers can work up to 40 hours per week.

Pay: Student workers earn the current NYS minimum wage.

International student employment: International students studying in the U.S. have limits by U.S. law regarding ability to work and participate in training opportunities. Learn about international student employment at JCC »

JCC FSA Positions

JCC has two separate on-campus employers: Jamestown Community College and JCC Faculty Student Association (FSA).

  • Students working on-campus jobs in the gym building and/or athletic games, in the residence halls, or at the Scharmann Theatre are technically employed by JCC FSA.
  • All other departments on campus are considered Jamestown Community College.

Students may only work for one on-campus employer and generally cannot accept positions with both employers.

Federal Work Study Positions

Federal Work Study positions are only available for domestic students who qualify for this program through their FAFSA application. If a student is unsure of their FWS eligibility status, they should contact Financial Aid & Billing.

  • Being FWS eligible does not mean that a student should be hired over others. Students must still apply to, interview for, and be selected for an on-campus position. Supervisors should hire the best person for the position.
  • FWS positions can only work during the academic year and cannot work during the summer months.
  • Students working in FWS positions must meet all federal eligibility requirements, including satisfactory academic progress, as determined by Financial Aid & Billing.
  • Students eligible for FWS funding are assigned a maximum amount they can earn from this program for the academic year. Changes to their financial aid resources, living arrangements, satisfactory academic progress, and level of enrollment may alter their FWS eligibility. Supervisors and their student workers will be notified of any changes.
  • For the 2025-56 academic year, students can earn FWS funds from August 24, 2025 through May 16, 2026.
Student Assistant Positions

Student assistant positions are available to domestic and international students, regardless of financial aid packages.
