Richard Thor’s life journey isn’t unlike many who have graduated from SUNY Jamestown Community College over the school’s 75 years. JCC might not have been in the original plans, or thought to be the best path forward, but ends up being a considerable launching pad to career success. 

Thor came back to his hometown of Jamestown in 1973 after serving in the Navy for four years. He was married and working the third shift at a grocery warehouse, 7 p.m. until 3 in the morning.

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — SUNY Jamestown Community College is preparing to celebrate Arbor Day and its 16th consecutive Tree Campus USA designation from the National Arbor Day Foundation with a ceremonial tree planting at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 24 on the Jamestown Campus.

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — SUNY Jamestown Community College’s annual Earthfest celebration is planned for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23 outdoors on the Jamestown Campus. 

The event takes on an agricultural theme this year, with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County teaming up with the college to create a unique experience for all. The event is free and open to the public.

The show is open to the public, and admission is $3 at the door.

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — SUNY Jamestown Community College’s Jazz Fest 2025 will feature a performance from the Dave Golando Quintet. The concert is free and open to the public and scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, April 25 at the Jamestown Campus Scharmann Theatre. 

The Dave Golando Quintet is made up of some of Western New York's top musicians, including Dave Golando on saxophone, Mark Filsinger on trumpet, Joe Baudo on piano, Marc Cousins on bass, and Carl Alanakien on drums.

OLEAN, N.Y. – Retirees seeking guidance on managing their finances, planning for health care costs, and ensuring a financially secure future are invited to attend the upcoming Rejuvenate Your Retirement educational course at SUNY Jamestown Community College. 

The program will be held at the Cattaraugus County Camous Manufacturing Technology Institute,129 Hamilton St., Olean. The two-session course is available on Tuesdays, April 29 and May 6, or Wednesdays, April 30 and May 7 from 1 to 3 p.m.

OLEAN, N.Y. — Paul Jewett pulled out two manilla folders that had been securely tucked away in a dresser drawer in his room at the Eden Heights assisted living community. 

He hadn’t rummaged through the contents of those folders much over the years. But they’ve been in the back of his mind, and they mean a lot to him. 

One contains his college transcript, in perfect condition, protected by a plastic covering. The other is filled with original papers he wrote on typewriter while taking classes at SUNY Jamestown Community College in the 1980s.

SUNY Jamestown Community College’s annual Golf Classic returns to the Holiday Valley Double Black Diamond Course in Ellicottville on Wednesday, June 18. 

This year’s tournament marks the 33rd annual event that raises funds for the JCC alumni associations.

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — SUNY Jamestown Community College will host auditions from 5-7 p.m. on May 2 in the Scharmann Theatre of the Jamestown Campus for local talent to be considered for the Campus Life events lineup for the 2025-26 academic year. 

SUNY JCC’s Campus Life delivers a broad mix of events to students to add another layer of depth to their academic experience. From performance artists to musical acts and networking events, Campus Life creates study break opportunities that are free and easy to access.
