SUNY Jamestown Community College invites prospective students, families, and community members to explore hands-on careers in engineering and the skilled trades during the first installment of its Spotlight Series, “Inside Track to Engineering & Trades.” 

The events will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, on the Cattaraugus County Campus in Olean, and at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, on the Jamestown Campus.

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — SUNY Jamestown Community College’s fall musical, “Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812,” will transform Scharmann Theatre into a vibrant, immersive performance space when it opens Nov. 7 on the Jamestown Campus. 

The production, led by JCC arts programming administrator Mark Sasse, runs for two weekends — Nov. 7-9 and Nov. 14-16 — and promises to be a unique show that brings spectators close to the action.

OLEAN, N.Y. — More than 400 people received free health care during the Remote Area Medical clinic held Sept. 13-14 at the Olean YMCA. 

Paula Snyder, executive director of SUNY Jamestown Community College’s Cattaraugus County Campus, and Dr. Jim Mahar of St. Bonaventure University served as co-chairs and helped organize the clinic.

SUNY Jamestown Community College will host a virtual information session at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, to help adults ages 25 to 55 learn how they can attend college tuition-free through the State University of New York’s Reconnect initiative. 

The online session will guide participants through eligibility requirements, available degree programs, and the personalized support JCC provides to help adult learners succeed. Attendees will also learn about flexible options such as online courses and dedicated faculty and staff support.

SUNY Jamestown Community College will host Trunk or Treat events for children and families at its Cattaraugus County and Jamestown campuses. 

The Cattaraugus County event will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, in the Library & Liberal Arts Center parking lot off North Barry Street in Olean. The Jamestown event will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, in the Science Center parking lot off James Street. 

Activities will include a Halloween movie projected on a big screen, a coloring contest, a photo booth, and more.

Liam Rivera’s career in manufacturing can be traced back to seventh grade, when he dreaded hitting the books and spending time in a traditional classroom at Dunkirk City School District. 

Around that time, his mother saw a Facebook post promoting the Western New York P-TECH STEM College & Career Academy, a multiyear program that prepares students for careers in advanced manufacturing beginning in ninth grade.

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — Five students celebrated their graduation from SUNY Jamestown Community College’s Workforce Development Machining/CNC Operator program during a gathering on Sept. 19 on the Jamestown Campus.  

The 15-week program, now in its eighth cohort, prepares students for immediate employment in high-demand manufacturing careers. Thanks to funding from the Office of Strategic Workforce Development/Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation grant and scholarship support from Chautauqua Works, there is no cost for students to attend.

The SUNY Jamestown Community College Foundation will celebrate 75 years of impact at its annual Awards Gala, presented by Assured Partners, on Thursday, Nov. 6, at the Chautauqua Harbor Hotel. 

The gala, which begins at 5:30 p.m., will feature the presentation of the John D. Hamilton Award to a group of JCC retirees whose service and dedication have shaped the college community for decades.

Jon O’Brian has been a History professor at SUNY Jamestown Community College since 1998. He teaches United States and World History. 

O’Brian is a JCC graduate who went on to earn a Business Administration degree from SUNY Fredonia, and master’s and doctorate degrees in history from the University at Buffalo.
