SUNY Jamestown Community College recently introduced a scholarship that will make higher education more affordable for Pennsylvania students. 

The Good Neighbors Scholarship is available to residents in McKean, Warren, and Erie counties in PA and covers half the cost of out-of-state tuition to JCC. That means eligible full- or part-time students can attend JCC for the in-state rate.

SUNY Jamestown Community College’s commencement ceremonies will feature student speakers from the Cattaraugus County and Jamestown campuses. 

Samantha Simon will speak at the Cattaraugus County Campus ceremony at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 16 at the Olean YMCA, and Tarryn Meyer at the Jamestown ceremony at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 17 in the on-campus Physical Education Complex gymnasium.

Nominations are being sought for the 2025 alumni awards given by the SUNY Jamestown Community College Foundation. These include the Distinguished Alumnus Award and Career Community Awards. 

Since 1980, the alumni association has presented accomplished alumni with the Distinguished Alumnus Award, the association’s highest honor. The award is given to those who have typified the college’s tradition of excellence and brought credit to the college through personal accomplishment, professional achievement, or humanitarian service.

SUNY Jamestown Community College’s Abigail Hill and Ayomideji Israel-Akinbo are the college’s 2025 recipients of the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence. They, along with more than 200 students across the State University of New York system, were recognized on Tuesday during a ceremony at the Hart Theatre in the Egg in Albany.

Kevin Kochersberger spent a part of April in the western Africa country of Benin. The Virginia Tech professor and 1981 SUNY Jamestown Community College graduate was there in hopes of expanding the African Drone and Data Academy he helped create. 

“It's been operational since 2020,” Kochersberger said of the UNICEF-funded program that started in Malawi in southeastern Africa. “We’ve graduated about 2,000 students, and our plan is to expand to other countries in Africa.”

SUNY Jamestown Community College’s Laura Parmenter was recently honored with the Faculty Advisory Council on Teaching and Technology Excellence in Instructional Support award for community colleges by the State University of New York. 

Parmenter is JCC’s director of Online Learning and interim director of the Learning Commons, which provides students with access to library services, tutoring help, and accessibility support.

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — SUNY Jamestown Community College is hosting a summer STEM camp that is made to spark curiosity and creativity in young learners through hands-on exploration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. 

Open to children ages 10-13, the camp is scheduled for Monday, July 28 through Friday, August 1, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Jamestown Campus Science Center. The cost to attend is $50 and registration can be completed online.

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — SUNY Jamestown Community has four student and faculty music concerts scheduled for the end of April and May at the Jamestown Campus. All are open to the public and free to attend. 

Faculty soloists and ensembles will take center stage during the Faculty Music Recital on Sunday, April 27. The Student Music Recital follows on Sunday, May 4 with student musicians performing in a variety of styles, from Bach to Broadway and beyond. Both events are set for 3-4:30 p.m. at Sheldon Center Room 138.
