Free Showing of ‘Sing’ Movie Coming to SUNY JCC Cattaraugus County Campus

OLEAN, N.Y. — SUNY Jamestown Community College is hosting an animal-themed summer movie night at its Cattaraugus County Campus in Olean. 

Children and families are invited to a free showing of the movie “Sing” at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 26 at Cutco Theater. Before the movie at 5 p.m., all are invited to a petting zoo with County Line 4H rabbits and goats. 

Popcorn and water will be provided at no cost to moviegoers.

The Charles L. and Margaret M. Johnson Memorial Nursing Endowment was established recently by Carol Susan Johnson in honor of her late parents who sacrificed so she could attend nursing school at SUNY Jamestown Community College. 

Endowment funds can be used on the Jamestown Campus for continuing education of Nursing program faculty, scholarships for students, and equipment needed for the Nursing program.

The SUNY Jamestown Community College Foundation is teaming up with the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres foundations to help raise funds for the Veteran's Scholarship in Memory of Traci C. Maybach during the Give 716 campaign. 
 
Give 716 begins at 7:16 p.m. on July 15 and runs through midnight on July 16. The goal is to unite Buffalo Bills and Sabres fans in a giving event that benefits nonprofit organizations in the Western New York area. Since its inception in 2021, the annual giving event has raised more than $4.4 million for 898 participating charities.

Jacob Hordych is an assistant professor of Sport Management at SUNY Jamestown Community College. 

Before coming to JCC, Hordych held many positions in the sports industry field, including serving as the assistant athletic director, sport information director, and women’s soccer coach at Mercyhurst North East.

ELLICOTTVILLE, N.Y. — The 2025 JCC Golf Classic raised more than $13,000 for the SUNY Jamestown Community College alumni associations. 

The 33rd annual tournament was held on June 18 at Holiday Valley’s Double Black Diamond course. Proceeds from the event will support student scholarships and opportunities on JCC’s Cattaraugus and Jamestown campuses.

Sarah Bray, is an associate professor and chair of the Business program at SUNY Jamestown Community College. Her teaching focuses on economics and entrepreneurship.  

Bray has taught at JCC since 2013, and before that worked as a professional in business roles.

OLEAN, N.Y. — SUNY Jamestown Community College’s Cattaraugus County Campus eSports stadium continues to be a hub for regional high school and middle school competitions. 

Five schools in Cattaraugus and Allegany counties and more than 50 students ranging from sixth grade to seniors participated in the CA BOCES spring tournament at JCC’s downtown Olean location. Since 2023 it was the fifth time BOCES has held a tournament on the campus.

Neil Flory, an associate professor and coordinator of the Music program at SUNY Jamestown Community College, has taught at the college since 2013. He teaches music theory, aural skills, songwriting, piano, music appreciation, an inquiry course in music, and other subjects.  

Flory is also an active composer, improvising pianist, and poet.

SUNY Jamestown Community College has sent students all over the world through its study abroad travel courses, international internships, and additional global learning opportunities. 

But never Vietnam ... until now. 

A trip to southeast Asia is scheduled for Jan. 2 through 16 under the guidance of Mark Sasse, JCC’s Arts programming administrator who is well acquainted with the country. 

Sasse taught English to students in Vietnam from 1994 to 2003 before moving to Malaysia to teach history.
