JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — SUNY Jamestown Community College and its Faculty Student Association announced that JCC Total Fitness will discontinue public access and memberships effective Feb. 1. The Jamestown Campus facility will continue to serve students, faculty, staff, and select service organizations with existing agreements.
The decision follows a multiyear review of the financial and operational sustainability of Total Fitness. Despite efforts to rebuild public membership after the pandemic, participation has not returned to levels needed to support public access.
“Ensuring long-term wellness opportunities for our students, employees, and community partners remains a priority,” JCC President Daniel DeMarte said. “This transition allows us to maintain essential services on campus while providing community members with a smooth pathway to continue their wellness routines.”
To ensure Total Fitness members maintain access to fitness facilities, JCC and the FSA are working with the Jamestown and Lakewood YMCA branches. Individuals with active memberships may join either YMCA location at their current Total Fitness rate, with the joining fee waived. This rate will remain in effect for 12 months and may be activated anytime between now and Feb. 28.
“We deeply appreciate the community that has supported JCC Total Fitness,” said Steve Riczker, executive director of the JCC Faculty Student Association. “Working with the YMCA ensures our members continue to have access to high-quality fitness and wellness resources.”
JCC and the Jamestown Area YMCA continue joint planning for a future collaborative wellness center and athletic facilities on the Jamestown Campus. The project is moving through required funding and design phases, reinforcing the college’s long-term commitment to community wellness.
