The SUNY Jamestown Community College Foundation is proud to announce the establishment of the Outstanding Future Educator Scholarship, a new fund created by Delta Kappa Gamma, an international society for women educators.

dedication of JCC's Renee Funke, top, and Heather Metzger.
The scholarship will be awarded annually to a rising sophomore education major at JCC who demonstrates outstanding promise, character, and growth as a future educator. This initiative reflects Delta Kappa Gamma’s commitment to empowering students who aspire to make a meaningful impact in the classroom and the broader field of education.
This Outstanding Future Educator Scholarship honors the legacy of the local chapter and the dedication of its members, Renee Funke and Heather Metzger.
Funke is JCC’s chair of Education programs and Metzger is a Teacher Education instructor. They each serve as co-advisors for the college’s Phi Theta Kappa Alpha Kappa Beta chapter and Teacher Education Club.
Funke earned a SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2024.
“Renee and Heather have long championed the mission of fostering excellence in education,” said Carissa Bentley, JCC Foundation executive director. “Their vision and leadership helped bring the scholarship to life as a way to support and inspire the next generation of teachers.”
The scholarship was launched with an initial gift of $8,000, with a goal of reaching a $10,000 endowment to ensure long-term support for future students. Community members, alumni, and friends are invited to contribute and help sustain this valuable resource for aspiring educators.
