Meditation Room with Mural Painting Opens on SUNY JCC Jamestown Campus
JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — SUNY Jamestown Community College’s Counseling & Career Center officially unveiled its meditation room and mural to a small gathering on the Jamestown Campus this week.
The rainforest-themed mural that covers the four interior walls of the room was painted by Bailey Lundmark and JJ Moore, sophomore Studio Arts students, who were joined at the opening by Kirk Young, Student Affairs vice president, Morgan Franchina, Counseling & Career Center director, and Madison Lavallee, JCC coordinator of art and instructor.
SUNY JCC North County Center to Host OPWDD Employer Table, Tie-Dye for Hope Event April 15
Employment opportunities and information from area community organizations will be available from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. on Monday, April 15 in Dunkirk at the North County Center of SUNY Jamestown Community College.
The New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities will have an employer table in the Main Building to discuss civil service career opportunities throughout New York. There are jobs available in career pathways such as nursing, health information technology, human services, psychology, business and administrative, and operations.
SUNY JCC Uncommoners to Perform First Student Showcase in April
A new facet of the SUNY Jamestown Community College Uncommoners called the Emerging Artists Series will present a series of short plays at 7 p.m. on April 19 and 20 in the Jamestown Campus Scharmann Theatre.
Two SUNY JCC Students Among State University of New York Chancellor’s Award Recipients
SUNY Jamestown Community College students Christian Baffoin of Greenhurst and Anna Gilbert of Olean are among nearly 200 students awarded the 2024 Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence who will be honored at 2 p.m. April 11 at the Albany Capital Center in Albany.
The Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence honors students for outstanding achievements in academics, leadership, campus involvement, community service, or the arts. It is the highest honor bestowed on a student by SUNY.
CRNY Artist in Residence at SUNY JCC Will Continue Sharing Indigenous Culture in Jamestown
A two-year grant through Creatives Rebuild New York that placed two artists in residence at SUNY Jamestown Community College is near its conclusion.
According to Jessica Kubiak, interim vice president of Academic Affairs at SUNY JCC, the work artist Kaycee Colburn has shared with the college during the grant’s duration has been “varied and voluminous.”
SUNY JCC Announces Student Leaders for Cattaraugus County Campus
OLEAN, N.Y. — Spring semester student leaders at SUNY Jamestown Community College’s Cattaraugus County Campus were announced recently following elections.
Serving on the JCC Student Senate are Luthaya Beard and Phoenix Beard of Friendship; Pattie Best of Portville, Nicholas Camillo of Franklinville, Derek Crimmins of Allegany; Allison Langston of Wellsville; Jillian Long of Portville; and Madison Summers of Portville.
Crimmins was elected president, Phoenix Beard vice president, Langston treasurer, and Luthaya Beard secretary.
Presentation Proposals Being Accepted for SUNY JCC Student Showcase
Presentation proposals are being accepted now through April 5 for SUNY Jamestown Community College’s Student Showcase. Formerly known as Scholars Day, this event welcomes students who would like to present their work in one of four categories:
SUNY JCC Announces Graduates from Fall 2023 Semester
Kirk Young, Ph.D., vice president of Student Affairs, and Jessica Kubiak, Ph.D., interim vice president of Academic Affairs, recently announced the students who were awarded degrees or certificates after completing the fall 2023 semester at SUNY Jamestown Community College.
One student earned a 4.0 grade point average, which is deemed highest honors. Thirty-eight students earned 3.5-3.99 GPA, or high honors; and 25 students earned honors at 3.25-3.49 GPA.
SUNY JCC to Host CareerFest March 19
SUNY Jamestown Community College will hold a career fair from noon to 2 p.m. on March 19 in the Student Union on the Jamestown Campus. This event is free and open to the public.
