Employment opportunities and information from area community organizations will be available from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. on Monday, April 15 in Dunkirk at the North County Center of SUNY Jamestown Community College.

The New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities will have an employer table in the Main Building to discuss civil service career opportunities throughout New York. There are jobs available in career pathways such as nursing, health information technology, human services, psychology, business and administrative, and operations.

According to Julie Page, navigator for Career Services for SUNY JCC, anyone interested in jobs in civil service will benefit from visiting with NYS OPWDD.

“Civil service jobs have so much to offer, whether it be at the state level like OPWDD, or the county level,” Page said. “The application and hiring process is easily misunderstood, so taking the time to connect with people directly involved in the process can be incredibly helpful.”

According to the New York State Department of Labor website, examination fees for state civil service exams are waived through December 2025.

SUNY JCC Campus Life will hold a Tie-Dye for Hope wellness event at the North County Center at this time. Guests are encouraged to bring a T-shirt to dye in anticipation of joining JCC’s suicide prevention campus walk planned for May.

Organizations participating in the events at the North County Center include Suicide Prevention Alliance of Chautauqua County, Child Advocacy Program, Behavioral Health, Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc., nutrition education from Chautauqua County Cornell Cooperative Extension, SUNY JCC Workforce Development, and SUNY JCC Single Parents Reaching Education to Employment.

“We’re excited to welcome the community to our North County Center,” said Wende Lescynski, director of Adult Learning Initiatives and the North County Center. “There will be lots of information available on employment, education, and community resources, and we invite everyone to stop by. We are ready to help foster personal growth and help new and continuing students prepare for an academic or workforce development program.”
