Emily Drew is admittedly obsessive about Shakespeare and classical theater. So, when she was called upon to direct a play that didn’t fit neatly into that box, she felt a little out of her environment.  

That moment of reluctance spawned an idea. 

'Well, I have something that is Shakespeare adjacent,” she remembers saying.

High School Bowl returns to SUNY Jamestown Community College for a 63rd season this winter with teams from 17 area high schools competing in a bracket-style quiz tournament that airs on local radio. 

Started in 1960, High School Bowl is the longest running competition of its kind in the United States, offering students the opportunity to show what they know in a variety of school subject areas.

Carissa Bentley was recently appointed executive director of the SUNY Jamestown Community College Foundation by its board of directors. 

“We are incredibly excited to have Carissa step up to the position of executive director," said Wade Weatherlow, president of the JCC Foundation. “Carissa has eight years of foundation expertise and a wealth of experience, which will significantly contribute to the success of our mission.

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — SUNY Jamestown Community College is hosting an opening reception for its Art Faculty Exhibition from 5-7 p.m. on Feb. 6 at the Jamestown Campus Weeks Gallery.  

The event is free and open to the public. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the artists, view their work, and enjoy hors d’oeuvres and light refreshments.

SUNY Jamestown Community College was recently approved for State University of New York’s Online+ recertification in 11 degree and certificate programs. Online programs that are part of the SUNY Online+ provide additional support services for students and faculty. 

SUNY noted that JCC "has a high level of institutional commitment to high quality online education and your best practices for administering online programs are exemplary."

OLEAN, N.Y.  — SUNY Jamestown Community College’s Workforce Development on the Cattaraugus County Campus in Olean is holding two short-term courses during the spring semester in electrical fundamentals and computer-aided design and manufacturing. 

The Electrical Technician program runs from 4-8:30 p.m. two to three nights a week from Feb. 17 to May 2.

A new SUNY Jamestown Community College scholarship honoring a noted Chautauqua County entrepreneur will be awarded to a rising second-year Business Administration student starting in 2026. 

The Caryl VanderMolen Scholarship was recently established with the JCC Foundation by Caryl’s daughter, Nancy VanderMolen, as a way to remember the woman who founded Lakewood Furniture Galleries in the late 1950s and moved it to its current East Fairmount Avenue location in the 1960s.

The following SUNY Jamestown Community College students earned full-time dean’s list honors for academic excellence during the Fall 2024 semester. To be eligible, a student must achieve a minimum 3.5 GPA while enrolled in at least 12 degree credits.
