SUNY Jamestown Community College welcomed three new full-time faculty members for the Spring 2024 semester.

Dr. Lillian Truong, who taught remotely last semester as an adjunct, is an assistant professor of Biology/Chemistry. She earned a Ph.D. in molecular and cellular physiology from Albany Medical College and has a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from SUNY Albany.

Two students from SUNY Jamestown Community College and their advisor attended the Student Veterans of America National Convention this month in Nashville, Tennessee. Yeidy Bishop and Matthew Adams, along with Don Pool, coordinator of Accessibility Services and Military and Veterans Club United advisor, were able to share ideas and best practices with student veterans, military-connected students, and other supporters, as well as corporate, government and nonprofit partners.

SUNY Jamestown Community College is enhancing course offerings starting this spring semester by adding seven HyFlex courses to its catalog.
 
While many instructors have continued post-pandemic to make it possible for students to attend classes online as needed, HyFlex courses aim to combine in-person and online learning more formally. Students enrolled in any of JCC’s HyFlex courses will be able to attend class in person on campus, virtually through Zoom, or entirely outside of the class meeting times.

Computer Science students at SUNY Jamestown Community College will soon find their learning experience is more immersive and hands-on than ever before. The college was awarded a $12,500 Innovative Instruction Technology Grant, and used the funds to create a virtual and augmented reality room in the Sheldon Center on the Jamestown Campus.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Academy recently awarded recruit Aaron Pacos with the Dan Feather Memorial Scholarship. 

Verna Feather created the scholarship to honor her husband, the late Dan Feather, who was an 18-year veteran of the Jamestown Police Department. Each year a Chautauqua County resident attending the Sheriff’s Academy who is noted for their professionalism and character receives the award, which was $1,400 this year.

SUNY Jamestown Community College is offering students the opportunity to travel to Costa Rica during their spring break for a hands-on, service-learning experience in ecotourism operations and responsible travel.

The study abroad program is part of the two-credit class, Ecotourism in Costa Rica, that begins Feb. 28 at JCC. The travel portion of the course is set for March 20-29.

Cost of the class is $3,700, plus tuition for part-time students. A first payment of $370 is due by Dec. 1. Financial aid and scholarships may be available.
