Proctored Online Exams

Taking a proctored online exam

Some online courses at Jamestown Community College require proctored exams. To support academic integrity while providing flexibility for our students, JCC offers two approved proctoring options for online courses that require proctored exams.

Students are responsible for identifying the proctoring requirements for their online course by reading the course syllabus and other course information documents during Preview Days or the first week of classes and taking the necessary steps to prepare in advance for these requirements.

Option 1: Online proctoring using Honorlock

You are encouraged to use Honorlock, which allows you to complete exams remotely using your own computer. Exam sessions are recorded, and a live "pop-in" Honorlock proctor may interact with you. Honorlock is free to use.

Option 2: Live proctor

You have the option of obtaining a live, in-person proctor instead of using Honorlock. This option requires advanced approval and may also require proctor fees for which you are responsible.

Important Requirements
  • You must secure a qualified proctor.
  • Some proctors require a testing fee. Students are responsible for any required fees.
  • You must submit the Proctor Request Form for approval at least two weeks before your first exam date.
  • Exams cannot be administered until approval is granted.
  • Proctors can be denied if there is concern about qualifications or integrity.
Qualified Proctors
  • If you live close to a JCC campus and do not wish to use Honorlock, contact your instructor for live proctor options.
  • If you live outside of the immediate JCC service area, acceptable proctors may include:
    • An education (K-12 or college) professional (teacher, professor, counselor) or college testing center staff
    • Librarians at public libraries
    • Military education officers or testing centers
  • Proctors must have a professional email address.
  • Proctors may not be:
    • Family members
    • Friends
    • Coworkers
How to Request a Live Proctor
  1. Submit the Proctor Request Form at least two weeks prior to the date of the first proctored exam in your course.
  2. Wait for approval confirmation from JCC. This will be sent to your JCC email account.
  3. Coordinate your exam appointment with your approved proctor.
