The Occupational Therapy Assistant program at SUNY Jamestown Community College held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday for its Explore and Soar pediatric sensory clinic located on the first floor of the Sheldon Center on the Jamestown Campus.

Sarah Tranum, director of the OTA program, gave an overview of the clinic and its goals.

Employment opportunities and information from area community organizations will be available from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. on Monday, April 15 in Dunkirk at the North County Center of SUNY Jamestown Community College.

The New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities will have an employer table in the Main Building to discuss civil service career opportunities throughout New York. There are jobs available in career pathways such as nursing, health information technology, human services, psychology, business and administrative, and operations.

SUNY Jamestown Community College students Christian Baffoin of Greenhurst and Anna Gilbert of Olean are among nearly 200 students awarded the 2024 Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence who will be honored at 2 p.m. April 11 at the Albany Capital Center in Albany.
 
The Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence honors students for outstanding achievements in academics, leadership, campus involvement, community service, or the arts. It is the highest honor bestowed on a student by SUNY.

A two-year grant through Creatives Rebuild New York that placed two artists in residence at SUNY Jamestown Community College is near its conclusion. 

According to Jessica Kubiak, interim vice president of Academic Affairs at SUNY JCC, the work artist Kaycee Colburn has shared with the college during the grant’s duration has been “varied and voluminous.”

OLEAN, N.Y. — Spring semester student leaders at SUNY Jamestown Community College’s Cattaraugus County Campus were announced recently following elections.

Serving on the JCC Student Senate are Luthaya Beard and Phoenix Beard of Friendship; Pattie Best of Portville, Nicholas Camillo of Franklinville, Derek Crimmins of Allegany; Allison Langston of Wellsville; Jillian Long of Portville; and Madison Summers of Portville.

Crimmins was elected president, Phoenix Beard vice president, Langston treasurer, and Luthaya Beard secretary.

JJ Jayhawk, the earthbound bird mascot for SUNY Jamestown Community College, was eliminated in the third round of voting for “Mascot Madness,” an annual tradition that brings State University of New York mascots together in a decade-old competition to determine the most popular mascot.

Jayhawk fell by 30 votes to Ellsworth Eagle from SUNY Brockport, whose enrollment is nearly 7,000 students.

The 32nd annual SUNY Jamestown Community College Cattaraugus County Campus Classic Golf Tournament is set for June 19 at Holiday Valley’s Double Black Diamond course in Ellicottville.

Proceeds benefit scholarships and opportunities for students on JCC’s Cattaraugus County Campus. Funds from this year’s event, which is sponsored by Community Bank, will help Nursing students purchase study software for their national licensing exam.

Last year’s event raised more than $12,000 for JCC’s Cattaraugus County Campus Alumni Association.

SUNY Jamestown Community College now offers three new microcredential programs that provide required training and education for direct support professionals who are in high demand in western New York and across the state. They are free for a limited time to students who are New York state residents.
