GEAR UP Program

GEAR UP & class of 2028

Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) at Jamestown Community College prepares high school students to succeed in post-secondary education or training.

Funded through a grant from the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation, GEAR UP supports Jamestown and Dunkirk city school district students in the class of 2028 into their first year of college.

GEAR UP helps students:

  • Increase academic success in post-secondary education
  • Graduate from high school
  • Explore personalized college and career possibilities
  • Apply for college and financial aid
  • Complete college and earn a degree

GEAR UP activities

  • Tutoring and mentoring
  • Counseling
  • Educational field trips and conferences
  • Summer leadership academy
  • Career exploration workshops
  • College readiness workshops, including college application and financial aid help
  • College tours and fairs

GEAR UP also provides professional development to teachers, counselors, and administrators in Jamestown and Dunkirk city school districts, as well as workshops and counseling for parents.

About GEAR UP

I’m Nichole Segrue, the program director for SUNY JCC’s GEAR UP program. Students can visit me during the school day and parents are welcome to contact me or set up a time to meet. My goal is to help students improve their academic achievement and potential for a successful career path.
