Auditions: West Side Story

The JCC Uncommoners will hold auditions for its fall musical, West Side Story.

West Side Story follows a modern day Romeo and Juliet who are involved in New York street gangs. On the harsh streets of the Upper West Side, two gangs battle for control of the turf. The situation becomes complicated when a gang members falls in love with a rival's sister.

Auditions For "The Last Five Years"

Calling all actors for auditions for the musical, The Last Five Years.

Written by Jason Robert Brown, The Last Five Years is about a five-year relationship between novelist Jamie Wellerstein and Cathy Hiatt, a struggling actress. Cathy’s story is told in reverse chronological order (beginning the show for her is the end of the relationship, and Jamie’s is told in chronological order, starting just after the couple has first met).

Dramatic Comedy: "She Kills Monsters"

The JCC Uncommoners present their spring play, She Kills Monsters, a dramatic comedy about the world of fantasy role-playing games.

Written by playwright Qui Nguyen and directed by JCC alumnus Adam Owens, She Kills Monsters tells the story of Agnes Evans as she leaves her childhood home in Ohio following the death of her teenage sister, Tilly.

When Agnes finds Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, however, she stumbles into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was Tilly’s refuge.

High school and JCC students compete to show off their global knowledge.

Teams of four work together to answer questions on current events, language and literature, history and geography, traveling the world, culture, art, country flags, and leaders.

The emcee asks a question, which is also displayed on a screen. Teams work cooperatively to come up with the correct answer. After each round of eight questions, judges score the team submissions.
