The SUNY Jamestown Community College Foundation will celebrate 75 years of impact at its annual Awards Gala, presented by Assured Partners, on Thursday, Nov. 6, at the Chautauqua Harbor Hotel.
The gala, which begins at 5:30 p.m., will feature the presentation of the John D. Hamilton Award to a group of JCC retirees whose service and dedication have shaped the college community for decades.
Jon O’Brian has been a History professor at SUNY Jamestown Community College since 1998. He teaches United States and World History.
O’Brian is a JCC graduate who went on to earn a Business Administration degree from SUNY Fredonia, and master’s and doctorate degrees in history from the University at Buffalo.
Crystal Rose-Williams, interim vice president of Student Experience, and Dr. Jessica Kubiak, vice president of Academic Affairs, announced that 30 students were awarded degrees or certificates from the SUNY Jamestown Community College Jamestown and Cattaraugus County campuses in Summer 2025. Four students earned highest honors (4.0 GPA), thirteen earned high honors (3.50-3.99 GPA), and one earned honors (3.25-3.49 GPA).
Two SUNY Jamestown Community College faculty members have been selected for State University of New York fellowship programs for the 2025-26 academic year.
Dr. Johnny Stein, associate professor of English, has been named to the AI for the Public Good Fellows program, while Simone Sellstrom, assistant professor of Communication, has been selected for the SUNY Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice (DEISJ) Fellows program.
SUNY JCC is hosting a virtual information session designed to help adults ages 25–55 learn how they can attend college tuition-free with the new State University of New York Reconnect initiative.
Xavier Smith is an advanced manufacturing instructor and curriculum developer for SUNY Jamestown Community College’s Workforce Development. His expertise is in teaching computer-aided design, machining, and mechanical engineering.
Smith is a graduate of Alfred State College with an associate’s degree in Machine Tool Technology. He got his start in manufacturing while taking welding classes at BOCES in high school.
The SUNY Jamestown Community College Board of Trustees will meet in the boardrooms of the Jamestown and Cattaraugus County campuses, and North County Center.
