The following Jamestown Community College students received academic awards from the Jamestown Community College Cattaraugus County Campus in May:

Alden: Alexander Hamilton (Cybersecurity Award)

Allegany: Kimberly Kwiatkowski (Addictions Counseling Award), Ashley Miller (Human Services Award)

Cuba: Alyson Brickey (Teacher Education Award)

OLEAN, N.Y. — Sophia Ragonese wants to become a nurse practitioner. Mason Parks would like to earn a master's degree. Both enrolled in SUNY Jamestown Community College’s dual degree Nursing program with St. Bonaventure University three years ago as a way to more efficiently meet their goals.

SUNY Jamestown Community College’s David Boyd was recently named 2024 Head Athletic Trainer of the Year for two-year institutions by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Intercollegiate Council for Sports Medicine.

SUNY Jamestown Community College’s commencement ceremonies will feature student speakers from the Cattaraugus County and Jamestown campuses.

Nursing student Anna Gilbert of Olean will speak at the Cattaraugus County Campus ceremony, which is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, May 17 at the Olean YMCA. Morgan Tobio, Fine Arts student of Hamden, Connecticut, will speak at the Jamestown ceremony, which will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 18 in the gymnasium of the Physical Education Complex on the Jamestown Campus.

SUNY Jamestown Community College is seeking nominations through Aug. 1 for its Alumni Nurse of Distinction Award.

Since its inception in 2002, the award has been presented to more than 120 outstanding JCC Nursing alumni. It honors those who have typified the JCC tradition of excellence, who exemplify the personal qualities of an ideal nurse, and who possess a deep professional commitment to excellence in patient care.

SUNY Jamestown Community College will host an evening of visual and performing arts events on May 9 in the Sheldon Center on the Jamestown Campus.

Beginning at 5 p.m. SUNY JCC acting students will present monologues from “A Bright Room Called Day” by Tony Kushner in the Weeks Gallery. This is also the last day the Juried Student Art Exhibition is on display in the gallery and available for viewing.

At 7 p.m. in the adjacent Scharmann Theatre, JCC’s Rock Ensembles will perform their annual Spring Jam. All events are free and open to the public.

With national college decision day looming on May 1, delays with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid has many students wondering when they will know how much financial assistance they will receive.

The uncertainty may lead some to delay starting college, while others may continue on their path in hopes FAFSA comes through in time.

Community colleges with longer enrollment windows can offer a safer and affordable opportunity to those who don't want to put off starting their higher education journey.
