Get ready for your first semester
Do you have questions about preparing for your first semester? Get Connected with your success navigator by attending a virtual session!
Meet with your Success Navigator: This can be done by attending a Get Connected session (online or during a session at a high school)
Complete your mandatory trainings: You will have received an email with instructions to complete Title IX (Sexual Assault & Prevention), AlcoholEdu, and Anti-hazing trainings online. These trainings must be completed annually.
Draft a first-semester schedule. The plan does not need to be perfect, but your advisor will expect that you have made an attempt. Your success navigator can help you with this step. For a short video walk-through of the following steps, CLICK HERE!
- Log into Self Service Banner through MyJCC and go to your Student Profile. You will find your initial course placement for English and math by clicking on Prior Education and Testing on the left-side menu.. View Your Advisement Transcript to view any previously earned JCC credits, including any transferred coursework. CLICK HERE for a guide to the Student Profile.
- View your program requirements and sample first semester for the major you are pursuing (scroll down on the page to view the semester layout).
- Create a possible list of classes, using the English and math courses suggested in your placement information, along with other courses from your program’s semester map.
- Browse Classes in Self-Service Banner to see your options (make sure to choose your correct campus).
- Write down the times, days, and CRNs (course reference numbers) for your course choices. Your draft schedule may not be perfect the first time around - but do your best!
- Keep your transfer plans in mind when drafting a schedule. Information on transfer planning can be found on the Transfer From JCC page.
Spring 2026 advisement and registration for new students begins Monday, November 3. More information will be posted here in late October.
*IMPORTANT: You must have met with a success navigator for onboarding information and have drafted a semester schedule prior to meeting with an advisor. Your navigator can help you with a schedule draft if you are unsure how to complete this step.
