Short-term training at JCC in shielded metal arc welding
The Shielded Metal Arc Welding microcredential at Jamestown Community College lets you obtain skills necessary for an entry-level position in the field of welding using the SMAW process and have the opportunity to earn weld certification on multiple joints and positions using SMAW according to the AWS D1.1 welding code.

- Apply to JCC and choose your degree or certificate program.
- Work with your advisor to register for the microcredential courses.
- After you've completed the courses, contact the Registrar's Office to have it added to your record.
Courses
Shielded metal arc welding skills
Through the program, you will:
- Develop skills necessary for employment in the field of welding using the SMAW process.
- Demonstrate the ability to make code quality welds on plate and pipe according to the American Welding Society (AWS) D1.1 Structural Steel Code.
- Understand welding electrodes and filler metals as demonstrated in the SMAW process.
