JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — SUNY Jamestown Community College’s Occupational Therapy Assistant program is hosting a series of one-hour playgroups for children in the Jamestown Campus Jayhawk Explore & Soar Clinic starting in March.
Run by JCC OTA students and faculty, playgroups are free to attend and are open to infant to kindergarten-aged children of all abilities. While children play, parents attend sessions focused on the challenges and rewards of parenting.
Three rotations are being offered:
Rotation 1: March 5, 12, 19
Rotation 2: March 26, April 2, 9
Rotation 3: April 23, 30, May 7
Parents and children are encouraged to attend each of the three sessions of their rotation. They can choose to come to the clinic from 9:30-10:30 a.m. or 11 a.m. to noon.
“Our playgroups help children learn play skills needed for physical, social, emotional, sensory, and language development,” said Jessica Swanson, JCC OTA associate professor. “We also look forward to supporting parents and caregivers with the challenges that come with child rearing. In all, this is a great opportunity not only for families in the community but also for our JCC students, who will receive invaluable hands-on experience working with children, caregivers, and practicing clinicians.”
