NYS tuition for qualifying out-of-state veterans

Jamestown Community College offers qualifying veterans, active duty military, and reservists who live outside of New York state the in-state tuition rate. JCC also offers in-state tuition to dependents of qualifying veterans, under the Veterans’ Access to Care through Choice, Accountability, and Transparency Act of 2014 (Choice Act).

Qualifying Veterans

In order to qualify for in-state tuition, a veteran must receive or have received payment under their Post 9/11 GI Bill® and Montgomery GI Bill®-Active Duty. More details are available at va.gov »

If you are using your veteran educational benefits, please forward your certificate of eligibility to military@mail.sunyjcc.edu. If you are not using veteran educational benefits, provide the following:

  • Military members: valid photo ID, most recent orders or copy of DD-214
  • Military spouses: valid photo ID, marriage certificate, and copy of most recent orders or copy of DD-214
  • Military dependents: valid photo ID, birth certificate, and copy of most recent orders or copy of DD-214
Staying a Qualified Individual

You will receive in-state tuition as a military-aligned student as long as you stay enrolled. You can take scheduled breaks between courses, semesters, or terms, but if you leave school then enroll again, you will no longer qualify for in-state tuition.

JCC & local military scholarships

  • Veterans' Scholarship in Memory of Traci Maybach (JCC): For students seeking a JCC degree or certificate who are or have served in the military, or spouses/dependents of military.
  • Bob and Barbara McCord and Jack Karl Scholarship (Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation): For veterans and dependents of veterans from Otto-Eldred or Cattaraugus County. One award will be available to veterans or their dependents, preferably residents/graduates of either OEHS or a school in Cattaraugus County. Students should be in good academic standing, be involved in extracurricular activities (sports, music, etc.) and demonstrate financial need. The award amount will vary. Students receiving an award can re-apply.
  • Southern Tier Military Support Scholarship (Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation): $500 for a military veteran attending JCC's Cattaraugus County Campus.

NYS military scholarships

  • Fry Scholarship, honoring Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry: Serves surviving spouses and children of service members who died in the line of duty after September 10, 2001. Spouses and children are entitled to 36 months of full benefits, equal to 100% of the Post-9/11 GI Bill®, which includes tuition and fee payments, a monthly housing allowance, and a stipend for books and supplies.
  • Military Enhanced Recognition Incentive and Tribute (MERIT) Scholarship: Provides scholarships for tuition, fees, and room and board for dependents of New York State residents who were severely disabled or lost their lives during military service.
  • Regents Awards for Children of Deceased and Disabled Veterans: Provides annual awards to eligible undergraduate students whose parents served during wartime and suffered severe disabilities or death.
  • Veterans Tuition Award: Provides tuition for veterans with four years of active duty service and combat veterans.
