Jolene Ayres from Allegany-Limestone Central School has been awarded the 2025 College Connections Teacher of the Year by SUNY Jamestown Community College. Ayres taught several courses across the English, communications, and leadership disciplines this school year through the College Connections concurrent enrollment program.

Francis LaChappelle is a Human Services assistant professor at SUNY Jamestown Community College. He has taught at JCC since 2003 and joined the full-time faculty in 2012, leading courses in human services, psychology, and addictions counseling. 

LaChappelle also has 30 years of professional experience in the human services field.

SUNY Jamestown Community College recently honored 65 high school students from throughout southwestern New York as the 2024-2025 students of the year in the College Connections program.  

In selecting the students of the year, schools were asked to consider College Connections participants who had embraced the challenges of completing college level work and demonstrated resourcefulness, integrity, and dedication.

Sherel Schnyder thought she was bound for New York City when she moved from her home in suburban Sydney, Australia to the United States in 2011 to play soccer and go to school at SUNY Jamestown Community College. 

“But I loved it,” she said of her time at JCC’s Cattaraugus County Campus in Olean. “I feel like it was a butterfly moment for my whole life.”

The SUNY Jamestown Community College Foundation will direct all funds raised during this year’s Give Big CHQ campaign on June 12 to the Daniel F. Courtine Engineering and Workforce Development Endowment. 

Give Big CHQ is a 24-hour online fundraising event that helps individuals find and contribute to causes they care about in Chautauqua County. The Chautauqua Region Community Foundation hosts this initiative to bring the community together in celebration of the work of local nonprofit organizations, of which 125 are participating this year. 

Board of Trustees Meeting

The SUNY Jamestown Community College Board of Trustees will conduct a planning session on Tuesday, May 27 at the Holiday Valley Resort & Conference Center Tamarack Club. In addition, the Board of Trustees will conduct a brief full board meeting to transact business at 4:45 p.m.
