SUNY JCC Announces Student Leaders for Cattaraugus County Campus

OLEAN, N.Y. — Spring semester student leaders at SUNY Jamestown Community College’s Cattaraugus County Campus were announced recently following elections.

Serving on the JCC Student Senate are Luthaya Beard and Phoenix Beard of Friendship; Pattie Best of Portville, Nicholas Camillo of Franklinville, Derek Crimmins of Allegany; Allison Langston of Wellsville; Jillian Long of Portville; and Madison Summers of Portville.

Crimmins was elected president, Phoenix Beard vice president, Langston treasurer, and Luthaya Beard secretary.

Presentation proposals are being accepted now through April 5 for SUNY Jamestown Community College’s Student Showcase. Formerly known as Scholars Day, this event welcomes students who would like to present their work in one of four categories:

SUNY JCC Announces Graduates from Fall 2023 Semester

Kirk Young, Ph.D., vice president of Student Affairs, and Jessica Kubiak, Ph.D., interim vice president of Academic Affairs, recently announced the students who were awarded degrees or certificates after completing the fall 2023 semester at SUNY Jamestown Community College.
 
One student earned a 4.0 grade point average, which is deemed highest honors. Thirty-eight students earned 3.5-3.99 GPA, or high honors; and 25 students earned honors at 3.25-3.49 GPA.

Open House events at SUNY Jamestown Community College are set for 10 a.m. - noon on Saturday, March 9 on the Jamestown Campus, and 10 a.m. - noon on Saturday, March 16 on the Cattaraugus County Campus.
 
Prospective students will be able to explore academic programs and speak with faculty; learn about student support services, sports, clubs and events; take a tour of the campus; and receive help with the application process.

SUNY Jamestown Community College is hosting a college transfer fair from noon-1:30 p.m. March 4 in the Cattaraugus County Campus Student Union.

Representatives from more than 15 colleges and universities are expected to attend to discuss transfer program requirements, scholarship opportunities, and application deadlines with JCC students.

The last two theatrical productions at SUNY Jamestown Community College have had a Shakespearean flavor, and the spring performance will continue the JCC Uncommoners love affair with the iconic playwright. 

The college’s theatrical group presents “Hamlet” at 7:30 p.m. March 14, 15, and 16, with a 2:30 p.m. performance also on March 16. The production will be performed in a black box format, so seating is limited to 100 per show.

The spring semester at SUNY Jamestown Community College is underway on the college’s physical campuses, and at Collins Correctional Facility.

Now in its third semester, the program has seen growth in the number of incarcerated individuals participating, courses being offered, and instructors ready to provide them.
