SUNY Jamestown Community College is proud to announce that two of its students have been named recipients of the 2026 State University of New York Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence.  

Alexandria Goodyear, a Nursing student from Hinsdale, N.Y., and Mufaro Malungisa, a Computer Science student from Pretoria, South Africa, will be honored at a statewide ceremony Monday, April 27, at the Albany Capital Center in Albany, N.Y.

SUNY Jamestown Community College will host its 2026 Student Showcase Celebration on Friday, May 1, highlighting student achievement across a wide range of disciplines. The event is free and open to the public. 

The showcase will take place in two parts. In-person presentations will be held from noon to 2 p.m. in the Student Union on the Jamestown Campus. Virtual presentations by online and Cattaraugus County Campus students will follow from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

On a quiet trail, away from the hustle and bustle of traffic, computer screens and cellphones, James Haick feels most at home.

Whether working on a farm or supporting individuals with disabilities at The Resource Center in Jamestown, Haick's life has consistently circled back to one place: the outdoors.

"It's just important to be outside," he says.

OLEAN, N.Y. — For Karli Davis, Sydnee Ganoung and Ashlyn Niver, the path to welding began with curiosity — either from watching family members work with metal or wanting to build something with their own hands. 

Now the three students are learning the trade through SUNY Jamestown Community College’s Workforce Development Welding Fundamentals program.

Dr. Jessica Kubiak, vice president of Academic Affairs, and Ron Shidemantle, vice president for Student Experience, announced that 108 students earned degrees or certificates from the Jamestown and Cattaraugus County campuses of SUNY Jamestown Community College in fall 2025.

Six students earned highest honors with a 4.0 GPA. Forty-four students earned high honors with GPAs ranging from 3.50 to 3.99, and 14 students earned honors with GPAs between 3.25 and 3.49.

SUNY JCC Students Collect more than 100 Autographs to Support Cancer-Focused Non-Profit

SUNY Jamestown Community College students enrolled in Sport in Society this fall collected more than 100 autographed items from professional athletes, Hall of Famers, All-Stars, and coaches to support the nonprofit organization Autographs for a Cure.  

Through mailed outreach efforts, students received autographed cards, photographs, and index cards from notable sports figures including Barry Sanders, Shaquille O’Neal, Goose Gossage, Steve Largent, Joe Theismann, James Lofton, and Steve Tasker, among many others.

SUNY JCC Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Academy Recruit Receives Dan Feather Memorial Award

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Academy recently awarded recruit Richard Allen the Dan Feather Memorial Award, a $1,600 scholarship recognizing professionalism, character, and commitment to public service.  

Allen has been enrolled in the Sheriff’s Academy, which is hosted at Jamestown Community College, since his acceptance in June 2025.
