OLEAN, N.Y. — The Tech Club at SUNY Jamestown Community College’s Cattaraugus County Campus presented a $600 donation this week to Olean VFW Post 1619.
The funds were raised through the sale of metal yard signs designed and manufactured by Tech Club students over the past two fall semesters. Produced at the campus Manufacturing Technology Institute in Olean, the signs are shaped like a buffalo, painted in red or blue, and feature the words “Let’s Go.”
Club President JB Bentley and faculty advisor Xavier Smith presented the check to VFW Commander Terry Vaughn, Vice Commander Larry Howard, and Trustee George Kwiatkowski.
Bentley, who also serves on the Cattaraugus County Campus Student Senate, is scheduled to graduate in May with a degree in Welding Technology. Student senators also visited the VFW on Veterans Day to provide pizza to members.
The yard sign project was guided by Smith and former JCC assistant professor Tim Griffin.
