International Students Playing Soccer Welcomed to Jamestown Campus

International students playing soccer for SUNY Jamestown Community College arrived at the Jamestown Campus and were welcomed with a cookout last week. This is the first group of international students to arrive for the fall semester, with more expected in the coming weeks. The Global Learning team at JCC also create welcome bags for students using donated non-perishable food items, toiletries, and general gifts from the community. Contributions can be dropped off at the Hamilton Collegiate Center, room 60 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

SUNY Jamestown Community College is expanding the academic and workforce development course offerings available at the North County Center in Dunkirk.

The location has long been an option for students in northern Chautauqua County who want to stay closer to home while taking general education classes to work toward a degree, pursuing 10-week courses, or one-year certificate paths. This academic year will see a 12-week Industrial Maintenance Technician training and Human Biology course open at the Bennett Road location.

Kirk Young, vice president of Student Affairs, and Jessica Kubiak, vice president of Academic Affairs, at SUNY Jamestown Community College announced the names of those who were awarded degrees or certificates from the Jamestown and Cattaraugus County campuses in May 2024.

A total of 315 students earned degrees and certificates. Highest honors represents a 4.0 grade point average, high honors a 3.5 to 3.99 GPA, and honors a 3.25 to 3.49 GPA.

OLEAN, N.Y. — SUNY Jamestown Community College celebrated students who completed the first section of the new Direct Support Professional microcredentials program last week on the Cattaraugus County Campus.

The cohort included 15 students employed by Intandem in Olean and Allegany. Six attended the campus gathering and received certificates of completion. They also shared their daily experiences helping people with developmental and physical challenges for Intandem, and how the JCC program is helping them grow as direct support professionals.

SUNY Jamestown Community College named the following high school students to the full-time student dean’s list during the 2023-24 academic year. Students must achieve a minimum GPA of 3.50 or better while enrolled in at least 12 degree hours to be eligible.

Michael Boedo Foundation Starts Emergency Relief Fund for SUNY JCC Nursing Students

Nursing students at the Jamestown Campus of SUNY Jamestown Community College have a new source of support, courtesy of the Michael Boedo Community Foundation.

The emergency relief fund was established with a gift of $1,000 from Brian Boedo, president of the foundation that was established in memory of his brother. Michael Boedo was a phlebotomist at TLC-Lakeshore Health Center in Irving before he died from an accidental overdose.
