Virtual Programs

Calling all student poets!
Submit 1-2 of your original works of poetry -  any genre, to be shared with a selection committee of faculty, staff, and students.
The top 10-15 poems will be performed live on the Jamestown Campus! Each poem will be evaluated and at the conclusion of the event, and 3 students will win gift cards (1st winner-$100, 2nd winner-$30, 3rd winner-$20).
Poem Submission Deadline: Noon on Friday, April 2. 

An international touring poet and performance artist, Ebony Stewart's work speaks to the black experience, with an emphasis on gender, sexuality, womanhood, and race. Enjoy an hour with this relatable creator that seeks to remove shame, heal minds, encourage dialogue, and inspire folks in marginalized communities.

After a national anti-LGBTQ hate group bullied a young transgender girl in Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, her community rallied behind her by hosting a community reading of "I Am Jazz" by transgender advocate Jazz Jennings. Across the country, we come together today for this reading to affirm, support, and create positive outcomes for transgender and non-binary youth.

Tom uses his fingertips, palms and multiple brushes to paint custom portraits. His creations are choreographed to powerful music that awakens the senses and heightens the experience. Experience color, music and movement during this creative and inspirational show.

Marsha P. Johnson was an activist, self-identified drag queen, performer, and survivor. She was a prominent figure in the Stonewall uprising of 1969.

Tackling the topic of unconscious bias has been at the forefront over the last few years. With the civil unrest in our country and the covers being rolled back on the treatment of marginalized people, we have been inundated with information overload. This presentation by Curtis Hill is where information meets application and participants are confronted with their own biases and given steps on how to eliminate them.

“Power of Words” hip hop and poetry performance by Aitina Fareed-Cooke/ A.I. Aitina performs original poetry and hip hop, illustrating stories of endurance through hardship, while sharing personal and creative stories of trauma and triumph. The artist explains the power of words and how writing can be used to heal, motivate, and inspire oneself and others.

The Center Gallery, in collaboration with JCC’s Campus Life, will host a panel discussion based on the exhibition "Stirring the Pot: Bringing the Wanamaker Photos Home", on view at the Center Gallery from Jan. 21-March 11.
