JCC Poetry Contest

Calling all student poets!
Submit 1-2 of your original works of poetry -  any genre, to be shared with a selection committee of faculty, staff, and students.
The top 10-15 poems will be performed live on the Jamestown Campus! Each poem will be evaluated and at the conclusion of the event, and 3 students will win gift cards (1st winner-$100, 2nd winner-$30, 3rd winner-$20).
Poem Submission Deadline: Noon on Friday, April 2. 

 

International Artist Ebony Stewart

Jazz and Friends National Day of School and Community Readings

After a national anti-LGBTQ hate group bullied a young transgender girl in Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, her community rallied behind her by hosting a community reading of "I Am Jazz" by transgender advocate Jazz Jennings. Across the country, we come together today for this reading to affirm, support, and create positive outcomes for transgender and non-binary youth.

Marsha P. Johnson was an activist, self-identified drag queen, performer, and survivor. She was a prominent figure in the Stonewall uprising of 1969.

With the civil unrest in our country and the covers being rolled back on the treatment of marginalized people, we have been inundated with information overload. This presentation by Curtis Hill is where information meets application and participants are confronted with their own biases and given steps on how to eliminate them.
