SUNY Jamestown Community College’s Career Services team is looking for professional clothing donations to help make students’ move from the classroom to the workplace more affordable.

Julie Page, Career Services project manager, “always saw creating a career clothing closet for our students as one of the best things we could do from an accessibility and equity standpoint,” shared Annie Chartrand, Career Services coordinator at JCC. “In developing our concept, we’ve learned many of our alumni are in favor of the idea, and feel strongly about empowering our students in this way.”
With support from the JCC Foundation, an area in the Hamilton Collegiate Center on the Jamestown Campus is undergoing renovations to become a fashion-forward clothing closet. Donated clothing will be added to the boutique-styled “J. Hawk Career Closet” for students to peruse while they prepare for job or internship interviews, professional networking events, or starting a new job. Items students select from the closet for their career pursuits will be free of charge.
“Because we have students pursuing such a wide variety of professions, most anything could be considered career wear,” explained Page. “Everything from suits to scrubs and even nice khakis and button-down shirts for all seasons will be considered, and what we can’t use will be donated to other organizations.”
To prepare for the fall 2023 opening, Career Services will accept donations of professional career clothing from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 6 at the Physical Education Complex of the Jamestown Campus. Desired items include work-appropriate dress pants, blouses, shoes, jewelry, scarves, neckties, sweaters, and blazers for all genders that are in new or like-new condition. Boxes are also welcome to help with storing back inventory.
