JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — Open theater auditions for two SUNY Jamestown Community College Uncommoners productions are planned for 4-7 p.m. on September 4-5 in the Jamestown Campus Scharmann Theatre.

“Actors, singers, and dancers of all experience levels should audition,” said Mark Sasse, Arts Programming administrator for SUNY JCC. “Productions that blend students and community members provide incredible growth opportunities for all involved.”

Performers in “Decadal: The Descent from Glory (A Devised Theatre Tale)” use artwork as a prompt to create an improvisational performance. The production is planned for early October.

“This is a unique show,” Sasse said. “I saw a thought-provoking installation piece in the (JCC) Weeks Gallery by David Schnuckle that displayed 10 rows of deformed glass and it inspired this production. It’s a challenging piece of devised theatre and I’m excited to see how it translates — from the Weeks Gallery to the Scharmann Theatre.”

December will bring “Tales of Wonder,” a holiday-themed blend of nostalgia and comedy, to the Scharmann stage.

“I wrote and produced this show over three Christmas seasons at the Penang Performing Arts Centre while I was living in Malaysia,” Sasse said. “This is the first time I’ve produced it in the U.S., and I’ve brought in one of my former students from South Korea to compose original music for it.”

Community members interested in scheduling an audition can sign up online or contact Sasse.
