JCC began the fall semester of the 2019-20 academic year with energy and optimism.

For the first time since 2010, the college began the academic year exceeding its budget goal for full-time equivalent students, noted JCC president Daniel DeMarte. “In addition, we are above last year’s actual enrollment on the first day of classes by 17.3 FTE, or 1.7%, a reflection on the outstanding work done by many to increase our enrollment.”

As of the first day of classes, a total of 2,500 students, including 1,861 full-time, 773 continuing, 798 first-time, 163 readmitted, and 127 transfers were enrolled for the fall semester.

Dr. DeMarte also pointed to other significant increases within the student population, including:

  • near full capacity in JCC’s residence halls with 322 students, compared to 236 at the start of the fall 2018 semester;
  • an increase in JCC’s international student population, with 55 students enrolled from 25 different countries and representing six of the world’s seven continents;
  • an increase of student athletes, from 85 at the start of the fall 2018 semester to 155 filling the rosters in 10 sports, which includes the addition of three new teams; and
  • the enrollment of 28 students in the Workforce Readiness Scholarship program, providing preparation in a variety of disciplines at JCC’s Manufacturing Technology Institute.
