Professor

I have been fortunate in my career to work in all levels of social work practice, from individual and family interventions to community groups and state-level policy initiatives. I have worked in New York and Kentucky, as well as overseas as a Peace Corps volunteer in Russia and Latvia. It continues to be greatly rewarding to share my experiences and passion for social work with my students in the classroom. In the policy arena I am particularly passionate about poverty issues and programs and family violence. In direct practice, I enjoy both ends of the lifespan, which includes early intervention programs for parents with young children, as well as working with older adults.

At Jamestown Community College, I regularly teach a variety of human services courses. I like to use a flipped classroom model, which allows students time in class to apply their learning in real world situations. I am JCC’s delegate to the Faculty Council of Community Colleges. In this role, I represent JCC faculty at the SUNY level. My outside interests include travel, Russian culture and history, and my family. I am also the PTA president at CC Ring, a local elementary school.

I love my discipline. It is flexible and always changing. It has enabled me to travel, work in a wide variety of positions, and make a real difference in the world.
