Virtual Out of the Darkness Walk

Saturday, May 2, 2020 | 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

The annual Out of the Darkness Walk, held as a virtual event this year, aims to increase national awareness about depression and suicide and assist survivors.

When you participate in an Out of the Darkness Walk, you join with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.

AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.

Online registration closes at noon (local time) the Friday before the walk. However, anyone who would like to participate can register at the virtual walk from the time check-in begins until the virtual walk starts. Virtual walk donations are accepted until June 30.

The Chautauqua County walk is a community partnership among the western New York AFSP chapter, SUNY Fredonia, JCC, Chautauqua County Department of Mental Hygiene, The Community Alliance for Suicide Prevention, and Chautauqua Tapestry.
