The JCC Student Showcase, formerly Scholars Day, is a chance for students to submit projects, celebrate their success, and be entered to win one of three $100 cash prizes. Students should apply by April 5 to be considered.
Consisting of internationally acclaimed virtuoso classical saxophonists Susan Fancher and Mark Engebretson, the Effiny Saxophone Duo’s focus is on innovative, energetic new music for saxophones, often with the addition of electronic elements.
Engebretson is also an internationally-recognized composer whose works often pursue explorations of popular music styles, virtuosity, the connections between poetry and music, and the dynamism of 21st-century technology. In addition to a live performance, the duo will give two presentations and host a woodwind masterclass.
