SUNY Jamestown Community College now offers three new microcredential programs that provide required training and education for direct support professionals who are in high demand in western New York and across the state. They are free for a limited time to students who are New York state residents.

JJ Jayhawk, the feathered mascot for SUNY Jamestown Community College, has advanced to the third round of voting for “Mascot Madness,” an annual tradition that brings State University of New York mascots together in a decade-old competition to determine the most popular mascot.

Nominations are sought for the 2024 Distinguished Alumnus Award and Career Community Awards that are given by the SUNY Jamestown Community College alumni associations at the Jamestown and Cattaraugus County campuses.

Since 1980, the Alumni Association has presented accomplished SUNY JCC alumni with the Distinguished Alumnus Award, the association’s highest honor. The award is given to those who have typified the college’s tradition of excellence and brought credit to the college through personal accomplishment, professional achievement, or humanitarian service.

Kirk Young, Ph.D., vice president of Student Affairs, and Jessica Kubiak, Ph.D., interim vice president of Academic Affairs, recently announced the students who were awarded degrees or certificates after completing the fall 2023 semester at SUNY Jamestown Community College.
 
One student earned a 4.0 grade point average, which is deemed highest honors. Thirty-eight students earned 3.5-3.99 GPA, or high honors; and 25 students earned honors at 3.25-3.49 GPA.

Grants are critical to programs staying current, and at times becoming cutting edge. As an example, the college recently opened a virtual reality room that aims to benefit the Computer Science program initially, and grow to enrich the learning opportunities of every program on campus.
