OLEAN, N.Y. — Jack Tupper knew that pursuing a mechanical technology degree was right for him after he manufactured a catapult design from scratch for a solid modeling class last spring at SUNY Jamestown Community College.
“I was able to do it pretty much on my own,” Tupper said. “I probably got stuck on a few things where I asked for help, but it was just quite an eye-opener to kind of see really that, OK, I do enjoy this and I definitely want to pursue it.”
Crystal Rose-Williams, interim associate vice president of Student Affairs, and Jessica Kubiak, vice president of Academic Affairs, announced students awarded degrees or certificates from the the SUNY Jamestown Community College Jamestown and Cattaraugus County campuses in summer 2024.
Five SUNY Jamestown Community College students recently received the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award for completing 300 hours of service to the college’s FAFSA Completion Corps. The award comes with a stipend of nearly $1,500 for each student.
Brendan Witherspoon’s schedule is pretty full these days. He works the night shift as a maintenance technician at Rosina Food Products in West Seneca, dabbles part-time for a plumbing and HVAC company in Cheektowaga, and volunteers as a first responder.
Oh, he also regularly makes the 2 1/2-hour round trip from his home in Derby to the SUNY Jamestown Community College Jamestown Campus for classes.
JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — SUNY Jamestown Community College introduced newly-elected Student Senators for the Jamestown Campus and Dunkirk North County Center during a “cookalong” with Mary Ryder, SNAP-ED nutritionist from Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County, and Daniel DeMarte, president of SUNY JCC.
The college purchased apples from Miller’s Apples in Dunkirk for events at the North County Center and Jamestown Campus. Students were given apples during the presentations and encouraged to take enough with them to make the recipe at home.
OLEAN, N.Y. — SUNY Jamestown Community College held an opening ceremony and ribbon cutting on Tuesday afternoon for the new child care center on the Cattaraugus County Campus.
Open since August, the JCC YMCA Learning Center is run and staffed by the YMCA of the Twin Tiers. The center offers nearly 50 spots during the school year and 100 over the summer months for students’ children.
OLEAN, N.Y. — Student leaders for the 2024-2025 academic year at SUNY Jamestown Community College’s Cattaraugus County Campus were announced following recent elections.
Serving on the JCC Student Senate are Luthaya Beard and Phoenix Beard of Cuba; Nicholas Camillo of Franklinville, Allison Langston of Olean; Jillian Long of Portville; and Alex Misenheimer of Olean.
JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — The SUNY Jamestown Community College community recently welcomed international students to the Jamestown Campus with an outdoor reception at the Roger Tory Peterson Institute.
The event was hosted by the college’s Global Learning department and gave SUNY JCC faculty and staff an opportunity to network with students and share information about the college and community.
