SUNY Jamestown Community College’s commencement ceremonies will feature student speakers from the Cattaraugus County and Jamestown campuses. 

Samantha Simon will speak at the Cattaraugus County Campus ceremony at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 16 at the Olean YMCA, and Tarryn Meyer at the Jamestown ceremony at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 17 in the on-campus Physical Education Complex gymnasium.

SUNY Jamestown Community College’s Abigail Hill and Ayomideji Israel-Akinbo are the college’s 2025 recipients of the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence. They, along with more than 200 students across the State University of New York system, were recognized on Tuesday during a ceremony at the Hart Theatre in the Egg in Albany.

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — “JCC’s Got Talent” hits the Scharmann Theatre stage at SUNY Jamestown Community College at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 23. 

The show is open to the public, and admission is $3 at the door.

In a lot of ways, welding is in Jacob Elliott’s genes. 

His grandfather, Bob Elliott, was a welder for a long time at Dresser-Rand in Olean and still teaches the craft to students at SUNY Jamestown Community College. Elliott’s father also welded. 

"My grandpa always had stuff lying around the house,” Elliott said. “I was always questioning what it was. The idea of welding kind of intrigued me. So I went and I took it at BOCES for my junior and senior year, and then it brought me here.”

Crystal Rose-Williams, interim vice president of Student Affairs, and Jessica Kubiak, vice president of Academic Affairs, have announced the names of 118 students who were awarded degrees or certificates from SUNY Jamestown Community College’s Cattaraugus County and Jamestown campuses. Eleven students earned highest honors (4.0 GPA), 48 earned high honors (3.50-3.99 GPA), and 19 earned honors (3.25-3.49 GPA).

Daniel Gonzalez intensely flips through the pages of a thick black binder. He’s almost to the letter he needs.  

The papers and certificates protected by plastic sleeves whizzing by tell the story of Gonzalez’s life in the military. It’s what he calls a “love me” book. Almost all veterans have one.

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — Seventeen original works of poetry were submitted for SUNY Jamestown Community College’s annual student poetry contest. 

Four winners in written and spoken categories were announced after students shared their spoken poetry with classmates, faculty, and staff in the Jamestown Campus Student Union on Wednesday afternoon.

Emily Drew is admittedly obsessive about Shakespeare and classical theater. So, when she was called upon to direct a play that didn’t fit neatly into that box, she felt a little out of her environment.  

That moment of reluctance spawned an idea. 

'Well, I have something that is Shakespeare adjacent,” she remembers saying.
