BAS through Workforce Development
The 20-week, 120-hour hands-on Building Automation Systems program through Workforce Development at Jamestown Community College consists of two 60-hour modules. Students will learn to install, repair, and maintain computer-based control systems that control and monitor a building's mechanical and electrical equipment including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), and energy management systems. Instruction will also include an overview of the growing field of BAS, specific pathways into employment, electrical safety, and hands-on skills needed to work in this field. This program is ideal for individuals interested or working in commercial or residential building maintenance, electrical, HVAC, or plumbing industries.
- Module I Electrical Foundations: This 10-week, 60-hour module focuses on theory and practical application of electrical concepts including AC/DC Circuits, Multimeters, Electrical Safety, Ohm’s Law, Wire Management, and Series/Parallel Circuits. Students will learn to draw, construct, and troubleshoot electrical circuits, relays, and switches.
- Module II BAS Control Devices & Application: This 10-week, 60-hour module focuses on input and output types, classification of BAS devices and controllers, and device installation, programming, and startup structure. Hands-on learning activities include wiring BAS input/output types to terminal strips, wiring 4-20ma circuits, utilizing multimeters to check relay coils and continuity, and wiring a 0-10 volt DC output signal to a transducer device.
