To cap off the 2019-20 season for the JCCe men’s basketball season, two players were selected to the National Junior College Athletic Association's Region III Division II All-Region teams.
The Jayhawks finished fifth in the region, posting an 8-17 season record and a 1-9 region record. The team’s lone region win came in an 83-81 battle at Mercyhurst University North East in which Jordan Thomas scored 24 points with Sheick Kourmora adding 16 points.
Thomas was named a Region III Division II Second Team All-Region selection. Kourmora was selected for a Region III Division II Third Team All-Region designation.
Thomas, a native of Queens, was the driving force for the Jayhawks in his first season. He recorded six double-doubles on the season. Thomas averaged 18.7 points per game, which ranks tied for third in the region, while shooting 49.7 percent from the field. In region action, Thomas averaged 21.6 points per game.
Thomas scored 20 or more points in 13 games. In nine region games played, Thomas was held under 20 points in two games. He averaged 7.1 rebounds per game which ranks fourth in the region. Thomas had double digit rebounds in six games, with a career-high 15 coming against Genesee Community College.
Kourmora, from Harlem, played a key role in what the Jayhawks did on the offensive end, averaging 16.5 points per game while shooting 46.7 percent from the floor. Kourmora hit 41.3 percent of his three-point shots.
Kourmora eclipsed 20 points in nine games, with four of those games coming against region opponents. He netted a career high 31 points against University of Pittsburgh-Titusville.
