SUNY Jamestown Community College welcomed new students to campus this fall with an inaugural matriculation ceremony held during new student orientation.
The ceremony brought students, faculty, staff, and college leadership together at JCC’s Jamestown and Cattaraugus County campuses to formally welcome the newest members of the college community and celebrate their commitment to academic success.
As part of the ceremony, students received matriculation pins and signed the college’s Jayhawk Student Expectations Banner, affirming their commitment to being engaged, responsible, and successful members of the JCC community.

The new student ceremony also reinforced the college’s commitment to supporting students as they establish a strong foundation for academic success.
“Matriculation is about marking an important transition in a student’s life,” said Ron Shidemantle, JCC’s vice president of Student Experience. “We want our students to know from the very beginning that they belong here, that their goals matter, and that they are part of a community that is invested in their success.”
The signing of the Jayhawk Student Expectations Banner will serve as a lasting representation of the students who begin their JCC journey each year.
“We are excited to establish this as a new SUNY JCC tradition,” said Daniel DeMarte, JCC president. “The students who signed the Jayhawk banner this year are now part of something that will continue to grow with each incoming class.”
JCC’s annual new student orientation gives incoming students an opportunity to become familiar with campus, connect with faculty and staff, learn about academic and student resources, and prepare for the semester ahead.
