OLEAN, N.Y. — SUNY Jamestown Community College’s Workforce Development is expanding training opportunities for local employers and skilled workers with the launch of two new advanced manufacturing programs this fall.

The courses, part of the Office of Strategic Workforce Development/Ralph Wilson grant project, will be offered on JCC’s Cattaraugus County Campus in Olean. Free of charge for students and employers, both programs are designed to upskill incumbent workers and provide advanced training for graduates of JCC’s Mechanical Technology programs.

The Macro Programming and In-Process Inspection course will be offered Oct. 6 to Dec. 17, meeting Mondays and Wednesdays from 8 a.m.–noon. Students will learn to use G&M Code to program basic machine movements, apply macro variables to construct programs, set up turning and machining centers, and practice in-process inspection techniques, including Haas machine probing cycles.

The Automated Machining course will run Oct. 7 to Dec. 18, meeting Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to noon. Students will gain experience in designing automation fixturing, learning the basics of robot automation programming, and constructing programs. The course also covers Haas machine probing.

These new programs are part of a larger initiative funded by the OSWD/Ralph Wilson grant, which includes eight advanced manufacturing training programs in total. Six have already successfully launched cohorts in recent months.

“Programs like these provide our regional workforce with highly sought-after skills in modern machining and automation,” said Gregg Karl, JCC Workforce Development program manager. “They allow local employers to stay competitive while giving individuals a pathway to advance their careers.”
