SUNY JCC To Host Resource Fairs For International Overdose Awareness Day
Wednesday, August 25, 2021

SUNY Jamestown Community College will host three resource fairs in observance of International Overdose Awareness Day.

“We appreciate our partners throughout the JCC community who will join us for this important event,” said Kayla Crosby, Campus Life director. “These fairs are a free event to remember people who’ve died from overdose, support people who struggle with substance use, and work against substance use stigma.”

Two fairs will take place on Aug. 31. An 11:30 a.m. event is scheduled for pondside in the center of the Jamestown Campus, while an 11:15 event will be held on the front lawn of the North County Center in Dunkirk. JCC’s Cattaraugus County Campus in Olean will host a similar fair on Sept. 8 at 12 p.m. outside of the College Center.

Those in attendance are encouraged to bring a t-shirt to participate in the fair’s “Tie-Dye For Hope.”

Resources will be available from JCC’s support services as well as organizations from throughout the surrounding communities, including Evergreen, Suicide Prevention Alliance of Chautauqua County, The Resource Center, The Chautauqua Center, Community Substance Abuse Response Partnership, Chautauqua County Department of Mental Hygiene, the Hope Chautauqua Coalition, Child Advocacy Program, Council on Addiction Recovery Services (CAReS), Inc., and more.

Observed annually on Aug. 31, International Overdose Awareness Day “is the world’s largest annual campaign to end overdose, remember without stigma those who have died, and acknowledge the grief of the family and friends left behind,” according to its website.
