SUNY Jamestown Community College held its annual Scholars Day on April 27 on the Jamestown Campus.

Scholars Day provides students and faculty at all JCC locations an opportunity to share collegiate work and experiences in research, class projects, and creative endeavors with the college community. This year’s presenters included several JCC students enrolled in the College Connections program.

First place overall went to Zacker Carr of Frewsburg for his project “Killing with Kindness.” Samuel Palmieri of Jamestown claimed top honors in the research category for his project “Mussel Mystery of the Chadakoin,” and Kristina Oyer of Frewsburg won the creativity category for her project “Where is My Mama?”

“This year’s submissions demonstrated a fantastic range in student projects,” said Annie Chartrand, Career Services coordinator at JCC. “The variety led the judges to create new categories for winners — research, creativity, and an overall winner.”

Judges for the event were Christine Schuyler, program director of healthcare initiatives for Workforce Development; Julie Page, project manager for Career Services, and Nelson Garifi, Global Learning consultant and retired executive director for academic innovation.

“We owe special thanks to our faculty mentors, Jan Bowman and Lisa Burns,” Chartrand said. “Scholar’s Day is always an exciting opportunity to witness and celebrate the student achievement we help to support.”
