It’s time for another “Whoooodunnit!” Though each one has been unique, the SUNY Jamestown Community College Alumni Association’s 35th annual interactive mystery also celebrates a significant local milestone.

“This year marks the 100th anniversary of WJTN radio in Jamestown,” said Steve Riczker, executive director of the Faculty Student Association for SUNY JCC. “Dennis Webster is a mainstay in Jamestown through his long career as an announcer for WJTN, as well as a dedicated supporter and participant in the Alumni Mysteries. He informed us of this milestone and we’ve written this year’s event to celebrate those legacies — though our radio station probably won’t run as well as theirs.”

“Mystery at the Old Time Radio Show” takes place at 7 p.m. on Jan. 26 and 27 in the Sheldon Building on the Jamestown Campus.

“The event has moved to different locations around campus over the years,” Riczker said. “We’re excited to see how the interaction between the audience and cast is affected by placing the initial scene on stage.”

During the event, a scenario depicting a crime of some nature is performed in front of the entire audience. The audience is then divided into teams who interview the cast of suspects and piece together clues to solve the mystery. Reservations are required, and anyone coming with friends can request to be placed on the same team.

“Some people have faithfully attended the mystery events for more than 30 years,” Riczker said. “We have volunteers who are also that dedicated to putting on the show – everything from the food we serve to the facilitators who help guide each team of audience members happens through donations of time and effort.”

Proceeds from the event benefit the JCC Alumni Association Scholarship Fund, which supports the High School Bowl Scholarship, two tuition scholarships, and a textbook scholarship.

Admission for the event is $25 per person and includes desserts and other refreshments. Reservations and payment in full are due by Jan. 19. Call 716.338.1057 to make a reservation or visit sunyjcc.edu/events to find out more.
