Jazz Fest has been missing from the SUNY Jamestown Community Campus for three years. Neil Flory, coordinator of Music and associate professor of music for SUNY Jamestown Community College, is pleased to share that Jazz Fest will make its comeback at 7 p.m. Friday in the Scharmann Theatre. The event is open to the public with no charge for admission.
“Our featured group is TRIAD,” Flory continues. “They are comprised of top musicians from the Buffalo area.”
Flory said he connected with George Caldwell, a Grammy award-winning pianist for the group, three years ago. They kept in touch through the pandemic and that made it possible for Jazz Fest 2022 to come together quickly.
TRIAD showcases the talents of Caldwell with Alex McArthur, a Buffalo-based singer, songwriter, and actress; and Anthony Henry, bassist and multimedia artist who also originates from Buffalo.
McArthur is a two-time Female Jazz Vocalist of the Year in the JazzBuffalo poll. Henry has played internationally and maintains a freelance presence across many genres in western New York. Caldwell has toured internationally for more than 30 years, performing with artists such as Dizzy Gillespie, Count Basie Orchestra, and Bobby McFerrin.
“Concert goers can expect new interpretations of jazz standards mingled with contemporary jazz pieces, and splashes of pop that are reinterpreted through the musical lens of the group,” Flory shares.”Their accomplishments are impressive, no doubt this concert is going to be great!”
Jazz Fest 2022 is sponsored by the Katharine Jackson Carnahan Endowment for the Humanities; the Society and Human Expression Career Community; Faculty Student Association; the Arts, Humanities, and Health Sciences Division; and the Music Department.
