Jackson and Rini Named to All-Region Teams

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - To cap off the 2021 season for the Jamestown Community College baseball team, two Jayhawks received National Junior College Athletic Association Region 3 All-Region team honors.

The Jayhawks closed out the season with a record of 9-18 while finishing fifth in the Region 3 West division with a record of 7-13.

Despite missing the postseason, the Jayhawks had great production from redshirt-freshman pitcher Bryce Jackson (Jamestown, N.Y./Jamestown HS) and sophomore designated hitter Nick Rini (Powhatan, Va./Knock HS) who were named to the First Team and Second Team All-Region team.

Jackson had a career season for the Jayhawks on the bump, striking out 87 batters in 11 games played. Jackson’s 87 strikeouts lead all of Division III in the regular season and had 20 more strikeouts than the next pitcher in Region 3.

Jackson finished the season with a record of 5-4 to go along with one save coming in the second game of a doubleheader at Erie Community College. In four of his five wins, Jackson struck out 10 or more batters including striking out a career-high 13 batters in a 9-1 win over Corning Community College. In total, Jackson pitched in five games where he had 10 or more strikeouts.

In the region, Jackson ranked second in strikeouts per nine innings (K/9) with 13.82 and was seventh in earned run average (ERA) with 2.70.

Nick Rini, Sophomore Designated Hitter - Second Team All-Region

Rini was one of the main sources of the Jayhawks offense this season, driving in a team-high 23 runs while hitting .381 at the plate, second on the team. Rini also led the team in slugging percentage with .587 and on-base plus slugging with .523.

Rini tallied a hit in 17 games including a career-high three hits against Erie Community College in a 7-6 victory. Rini also had a strong bat at the plate, getting an extra base hit in seven games including hitting a home run in three games.

Jackson is set to return for his sophomore season next year while Rini is looking to continue his academic and baseball career at a four-year institution.
