SUNY Jamestown Community College will hold Earthfest 2023 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 19, along the pondside walkway, weather permitting, and in the Student Union of the Hamilton Collegiate Center. The event is free and open to the public, and will focus on protecting water resources and keeping them clean.

“There’s so much to see and learn at Earthfest,” Janis Bowman, professor of Biology and coordinator of Environmental Science at JCC said. “There will be live acoustic guitar music by local talent Jaime Haight, vendors selling eco-friendly products, nature photography, jewelry and plants, educational displays, and the noon highlight is Jeff Musial with his animal ambassadors from Nickel City Reptiles and Exotics.”
The Earth Awareness Club will conduct a tree seedling adoption with tree donations made by the Chautauqua County Soil and Water Conservation District. Proceeds from the sale of fairly-traded products by Earth Awareness Club members will be donated to the Plastic Soup Foundation and the National Wildlife Federation’s “Protecting Our Water Resources” and “Water for Wildlife” efforts.
“Our Earth Awareness Club looks forward to this event every year,” Bowman said. “The club hopes that the college community, and members of the community at large, will join in celebrating our Earth and learning how we can be better stewards of the beautiful wonders that nature provides.”
The Earth Awareness Club promotes an increased understanding and appreciation of the natural world and its creatures, enhanced knowledge of important environmental issues, local awareness and action. Earthfest is sponsored by the group in cooperation with the JCC College Program Committee, JCC Faculty Student Association, and JCC Student Senate. For more information, visit sunyjcc.edu/events.
