SUNY Jamestown Community College issued a lockdown alert on Friday, September 9 at 1:35 p.m. for the Cattaraugus County Campus due to the suspected presence of a person with a Taser-like weapon. All persons were evacuated safely.

Building doors on campus were immediately locked remotely via JCC’s security access control system. The new security system was introduced at all college locations in February 2021.

Olean Police Department responded immediately to clear the campus safely while the buildings remained in lockdown. Students and employees were evacuated immediately. Law enforcement remained on campus through the evacuation.

Employees and students were notified to “Run, hide, fight. Run from the threat. Hide out of view. Fight to protect yourself if an intruder enters your area. Wait for additional orders from authorities.” in accordance with the most up to date FBI protocol in the event of a lockdown situation.

Real time updates appeared on the JCC webpage sunyjcc.edu/emergency, as well as the SUNY JCC’s Facebook and Twitter social media accounts.

The campus will reopen Saturday, September 10, 2022. For additional questions contact 716.338.1025.
