Assistant Professor
I am an assistant professor of business management at Jamestown Community College. I teach courses in business management and the Introduction to Hospitality and Tourism course. My favorite aspect of my job is sharing my passion for business, hospitality, and tourism; developing and motivating students to be successful in the goals they have set for themselves; and seeing students grow their confidence and their own passion.
Business management is more than theory and textbooks; it is the practical experience that will build the future leaders of the business industry. In my classes you will learn the theory, and you will be able to apply what you learn in real-world examples and explore practices of businesses you are familiar with. As your advisor, my job is to assist you in building a path to your goals and to set you up for success to reach those goals, whether it is getting your dream job after graduation or continuing your education.
My passions are exploring the impact of tourism from a social, environmental, cultural, and ethical perspective, especially the area of dark tourism. Therefore, I love to travel and am always ready to "up and go" if the moment presents itself. I am also passionate about leadership and service quality - what it takes to be a leader and how employees and customers perceive they are being served!
Before joining JCC, I was the program director and instructor for hospitality management at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, and taught several courses in its business management program. I have spent more than 20 years in the hospitality industry, working with companies such as Marriott, Hilton, Wyndham, and Carlson Hotels in a variety of leadership roles. My passion and research interests are service quality, leadership, and the impact of tourism, especially in the area of dark tourism.
I live in Olean, N.Y. with my husband and nine children. I am the president of the Parent Teacher Association for Archbishop Walsh Academy/Southern Tier Catholic Schools, as well as a committee chair for my church ministry. I also serve as section editor for the International Journal of Gaming Hospitality and Tourism. I am an active member of the International Council on Hospitality, Restaurant, and Institutional Educators.
